I've actually rocked the Shield since 2016, upgrading to I just recently started getting and playing 4k movies in my PLEX library and I’ve noticed on the Apple TV PLEX client the playback stutters. I've got a massive 350TB library hosted in Plex that's heavy on 4K BluRay Remuxes, so I've been leery to venture away from the Shield. The project I have an LG CX and Apple TV 4k (2021). Apple 4K tv, both newest version and older cannot play 60fps 4K videos via Plex without stutter. I Atmos doesn’t work on Plex for the Apple TV, infuse will play the file but as far as I know that fakes the atmos. HDR does work in HD, but viewing 4k is unreliable as others have said. Apple TV is an excellent hardware, but in my opinion Plex runs worse on Apple TV. But yeah it’s usually 4k hdr high bitrate 80+ GB movies My built-in Samsung TV app isn’t cutting it. A shield is the only client that will let you play atmos rips in Plex.
